Aside from all the benefits of public speaking to your business, of even greater importance, in my opinion, is letting your light shine. Each one of us is on this planet to contribute our unique gifts, talents and skills for the betterment of humanity.
Speaking is one of the most powerful vehicles for growing into a greater version of yourself and contributing to the world on a much bigger playing field. When you speak you are saying to the world, "I matter. You matter. It (your topic) matters." You are saying, "I understand your pain and I have a solution."
In learning to sing or play an instrument as an adult, there is an interesting phenomenon that often happens. Because we are so conditioned to hearing what accomplished musicians sound like through radio, Internet, live performances, etc., we think that we should be able to sound like that, too, and we should sound like that right now!
The same holds true for public speaking. We see confident accomplished speakers and expect that we should be able to get out of the starting gate at that same level of accomplishment. Then we beat ourselves up when we fall short. (Yes, I'm guilty of this too.)
It's so important to remember that becoming a greater version of ourselves is a journey, and each step in the process is an unfoldment of our true power. Letting your light shine starts with the flicker of courage and is magnified with support.
Your voice is a powerful reflection of your inner light. Is your voice being heard in the world the way you know it should be?
