I believe you are here on this planet to cause a ripple effect with your gifts, talents and wisdom to transform the human condition for the better. Your work, if you choose it wisely, is your dharma (duty, behavior considered morally upright, Natural Law).
Your core marketing message is the first pebble in the pond that causes that ripple. It’s the first opportunity for people get a glimpse into the movement you are here to create.
One of the biggest challenges coaches, creative types and service-based women entrepreneurs have is communicating about their business in a way that sparks interest, generates referral connections and attracts their divine right clients without hype. And it’s not just verbal communication that stops the flow, it’s the non-verbal and energy being conveyed, too.
First, let’s take a look at some of the common communication pitfalls that sabotage client attracting communication. (Don’t worry if you discover that you are falling into these traps. I’m going to give you 3 tips (the C’s) that will help you step into your authentic communication power.)
Pitfall #1: Your message is esoteric, wishy washy or too broad.
Result: Your audience is left dazed, confused and may even politely excuse themselves – ouch!
Pitfall #2: You are overly rehearsed, in your head and/or focused on what’s in it for you
Result: The listener has their guard up and the conversation will likely be superficial (no inspired action possible from that place).
Pitfall #3: Your energy conveys anything other than confidence and humility
Result: Your audience will distrust you
Let’s be honest. We all have doubts, fears and insecurities that trip us up in our marketing communication from time to time. We’re human! The good news is that there are simple steps you can take to avoid these pitfalls and start having genuine conversations that lead to rewarding results for you as well as those whose lives you are here to transform.
I’ve distilled the essentials of client attracting communication into three C’s to make it easy to remember and integrate. As you get better at this, your core marketing message will have the ripple effect that inspires people to work with you.
Which is why I am excited to give you these 3 tips to get you started…
Tip #1: Be CLEAR in your message
When you are meeting someone for the first time, this is what usually comes up in the first 30 – 60 seconds and they’ll be curious to know more or not based on how clear your core message is.
A client attracting marketing message includes the specific problem you solve, what gets to happen as a result of solving that problem, and who, specifically, you solve it for. Trust me, I’ve helped lots of people with this. Even the most esoteric practitioners will benefit tremendously from conveying these three elements. The clearer you communicate them, the easier it will be to attract your divine right clients.
Tip #2: CONNECT heart to heart
Remember you are talking to another human being. (I know that seems obvious but it is shockingly easy to forget.) Connecting involves listening and curiosity. Listening and asking questions are often the greatest gifts and most powerful client attraction tools in your authentic marketing toolbox.
Listen for how you can help them with a tip, connect them with a potential lead or help them solve a challenge. And the more open you are the more open and trusting they will be, too.
Tip #3: Convey CONFIDENCE
…And I don’t mean the puffed up, falsely cheerful kind. I mean the kind of confidence that naturally flows from you when you are at your best. Struggling with this one?
Here’s an extra tip. Recall a time when you were doing your best work. What, specifically, were you doing? How did it make you feel? What was the result your client got? Remind yourself of all your best qualities daily.
So often we think that client attraction is hard and awkward. But really when we simply speak the truth with Clarity, Connection and Confidence, we create a sense of authentic presence that magnetizes those whom we love to work with most.
The next time you are at a networking event or speaking, you’ll feel a stronger sense of confidence and the people you are inspired to work with will start showing up.
