Accommodating clients by giving up your evenings and weekends to fit their schedule?
Altering how you normally deliver services to “make it work” for them (even if it doesn’t for you)?
Undercharging and over-delivering?
Feeling resentful and burned out by it all?
It probably started innocently with you wanting to make your clients happy. Or maybe you felt desperate to get and keep the client because your bank account was running low. Or maybe you just thought that’s how people do business.
Whatever the initial reason, you’ve unintentionally let them know it’s okay to engage with you in this way and now you feel frustrated and resentful. And your clients are likely not getting the full value and benefit of all you have to offer because they are not taking you or their investment in working with you seriously.
Ladies, it’s time to stop accommodating, caving, compromising and discounting and start creating Bold Boundaries That Boost Your Bottom Line!
I promise you – handling this issue now will put you back at the helm of your business where you belong and put lots more money in your bank account.
Which is why I am excited to lay out 3 specific steps you can take to regain control, win their respect, and be able to charge – and get – what you
Step 1: Reclaim Your Time
I could do a three hour workshop on this topic alone but I want to give you one powerful step you can take to keep clients from infiltrating your evenings, weekends or family and personal time.
First and foremost, set your service delivery and availability hours based on what works for YOU and clearly spell that out for your clients.
They will respect you more when you embody this kind of leadership energy, and it will help them relax into trusting you and the process, too.
Step 2: Create Packages or Programs Designed to Achieve a Specific Outcome
There are many benefits to creating packages or programs, but the one benefit I want to highlight today is that it eliminates most customizing requests. But here is the key…
You’ll need to design your programs or packages to get your clients to a specific result or outcome in a clear step-by-step fashion. Identifying your Signature System will help you do that quickly and easily.
Will a few people walk away from time to time? Yes. And in my experience, they tend to be high maintenance clients and not that committed to getting their problem solved anyway. It will feel great to let them go.
What WILL happen is that a lot more people will say YES to your offers because they will be far more compelling and clearly focused on delivering the outcome your clients want – the way you know works best.
Step 3: Own Your Worth!
Again, I could do a whole weekend workshop on this topic. (Maybe I will!)
If you are like me, you want clients to come to you for your expertise, wisdom, skills, strengths and believe it or not, your being-ness. Yes, your energy and presence are highly valuable, too!
The problem is that most of us are walking around with massive fear and doubt about our worth. We come up with all sorts of reasons to charge less like:
“I’m just starting out,” “I don’t feel right about charging that much,” “If I charged what I’m really worth, no one would buy,” “I’m not an expert yet,” “I need the clients so I have to lower my prices.”
On top of that, women, especially, feel like they have to prove their worthiness by over-delivering and bending over backwards for people.
Sound familiar? Sisters, as my coach, Kendall SummerHawk says, “Fear and doubt are never truth.” Yes, it’s important to acknowledge the fear and doubt, but it doesn’t mean we have to buy into it as the truth.
What’s far more likely is that you have amazing talent and value to share that can make a huge difference in your clients’ lives. It’s time to start charging what you and the transformation you provide are really worth and I promise you the divine right people will show up!
