Using “The 3 M’s of Maximizing your Message” to Increase Impact and Income
One of the things I love about my business is the ability to empower service professionals to have greater impact, whether it’s at the front of the room or in front of the video camera, than they thought possible. And to have that impact include greater income is icing on the cake.
I consider my approach to be a hybrid model rooted in authenticity, purpose and contribution and nurtured to grow with practical steps that bear the juiciest fruit.
Today I want to focus on how I use the 3 M’s to produce the best fruit for myself as well as my clients and audiences.
Here are the 3 M’s of Maximizing Your Message:
Start using these tools and you’ll be able to harvest the fruits of your efforts, too!
1. Is my message MEANINGFUL to them? As I’ve shared in past tele-trainings, articles and blog posts, it’s critical that you maintain a diligent focus on WIIFT (What’s In It for Them). Unless you let people know how what you do and what you offer can benefit them or make a difference in their life or business, they won’t tune in, listen up or remember you. By asking myself the question, “Is my message meaningful to them?” I can let people know I “get” their pain and I have a solution to what they want.
2. Is my message MEMORABLE? One of my hobbies is studying neuroscience. (Yeah, I have a geek side.) One of the things I’ve learned (and known on an intuitive level) is that humans primarily store information because of the novelty of information (think emotionally charged stimuli) or repetition. Combine the two through stories, experiential activities, anecdotes, metaphors, etc., and you create lasting mind links to your message. They are going to think of you the next time they need your services or will refer others to you.
3. Is my message MARKETABLE? Guess what…Unless you have a J-O-B where you are not on commission, you are in sales. Yep. Like it or not, as an entrepreneur or small business owner, you are 100% responsible for your income. This is a big subject and one that is hard to accept for many heart-centered entrepreneurs.
I want to give you one piece of gold you can bank on right now. Unless you have a call to action (an obvious next step for them to take as a result of hearing you speak) your message is not marketable. A simple call to action that I like to recommend as a starter is inviting people to opt-in to a fr~ee download from your website. You can keep giving great talks with great content, but unless you have a call to action in place to either drive them to an opt-in or make a purchase on the spot, you will walk away with empty pockets and an empty database.
